    An upgrader's win chance is set by its multiplier and the site's house edge, and nothing else. Here is what each multiplier really pays, why the order you click in cannot change it, and the one number that does.

    Every upgrader is the same two numbers

    An upgrader takes a skin, offers you a multiplier, and gives you a stated chance of hitting it. Strip the animation away and only two numbers decide everything: the multiplier you picked, and the house edge the site takes.

    A fair upgrader at multiplier M would win exactly 1 time in M. Double or nothing wins half the time, 10x wins a tenth of the time. An operator taking an edge of E pays out slightly less often than fair, and the win chance becomes (1 minus E) divided by M.

    The formula, in one line

    Win chance = (1 - house edge) / multiplier. A fair 5x pays 20 percent of the time; at a 20 percent edge it pays 16 percent of the time. Every upgrader on every CS2 site is some version of this line.

    The 2x button is not the same button everywhere

    That formula has a consequence worth seeing. A 2x upgrade is fair at 50 percent. What a site actually offers you depends entirely on the edge it charges, and the published edges on CS2 skin sites are not close to each other.

    Bar is the house edge each site publishes, which is the number that actually differs; the win chance it produces barely does. Feed these through (100 minus the edge) divided by 2 and the 2x button pays 49.4 percent at Clash.gg against 40.0 percent at CaseHug, so plotting the win chances would have drawn five near-identical bars and hidden the very gap this section is about.     What strategy can and cannot change

    Here is the part that most upgrader guides get wrong. Multiply the win chance by the multiplier and the multiplier cancels: your expected return per pull is (1 minus E), whatever multiplier you chose. A 1.5x and a 50x at the same site have the same expected cost per click.

    So picking multipliers is not a strategy in the sense of changing what you expect to lose. It changes how the loss arrives, not how much of it there is. What it changes is variance, and chaining is where that becomes obvious: two upgrades in a row succeed only as often as the first chance times the second.

    Chance of surviving a whole chain of 2x upgrades at a 20 percent edge, which is where most case sites sit. Each step is the previous one multiplied by 0.4, so five in a row lands about once per hundred attempts. At Clash.gg's 1.2 percent edge the same five-chain is about 2.9 percent: better, and still a long way from a plan.

    The only lever that actually moves

    If expected return per pull is fixed by the site's edge, then the two things you control are how many pulls you make and which site you make them on. Re-staking the whole balance repeatedly compounds the edge against you: after a hundred re-staked pulls you would expect roughly 30 percent of your starting value left at a 1.2 percent edge, and effectively none of it at 20 percent.

    That is the entire actionable content of upgrader strategy. Fewer pulls, and a lower published edge. Everything else is decoration on the same arithmetic.

    Expected loss per pull is (1 minus the edge) times your stake at every multiplier, so nothing in the top four rows moves it; they only change how lumpy the outcome is. The two rows that do move it are the two the site does not control for you.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is there a CS2 upgrader strategy that actually works?
    Not in the sense of beating the edge. Expected return per pull is one minus the house edge whatever multiplier you choose, so multiplier selection, chaining patterns and stop rules all leave expected loss untouched. The only two things that change it are making fewer pulls and using a site with a lower published edge.
    Is a low multiplier safer than a high one?
    Safer per click, in the sense that it loses less often, but not cheaper. A 1.5x and a 20x at the same site have the same expected cost per pull. The low multiplier spreads the same expected loss over more, smaller events, which feels different and is not.
    What win chance should a 2x upgrade show?
    A fair one is 50 percent. Subtract the site's edge and you get the real figure: about 49.4 percent at a 1.2 percent edge, and about 40 percent at the 20 percent edge most case-opening sites publish. If a site shows a 2x well under 40 percent, its edge is higher than 20 percent.
    Does chaining upgrades improve the odds?
    No, it compounds them downward. Surviving a chain means winning every step, so the chance is the per-step chance raised to the number of steps. Five 2x upgrades in a row at a 20 percent edge comes in around 1 percent of the time.
